A Slice of the Ozarks
This 15-acre lake, surrounded by the scenic beauty of the Ozarks, is a popular destination for anglers and campers alike. The lake has been carefully stocked with channel catfish, bluegill, redear sunfish, and black bass, ensuring that there’s always a chance to reel in a catch.
My son, my dog, and I first visited Beaver Lake on Monday October 7th, 2024. Luckily, it’s not too far from our homestead, and we were able to get there on our Polaris RZR by taking unpaved county roads.
Unfortunately, my dog (Mo) decided he wanted to rest under my legs while I was driving, and ended up pushing the gas pedal to the floor. That was a fun little acceleration. I had to hit the brakes and stop in the middle of the road to get my pup back in his seat.
Of course, that was exactly the moment the only other vehicle we saw during our entire trip decided to come up behind us and honk the horn. I have to admit I lost my cool and yelled at the driver. So much for a drama-free adventure! Oh well! A couple miles down the road, we crossed a bridge over Tenmile Creek, and were in awe of the creeks serene beauty, and I was able to switch from annoyed back to adventure mode.
Primitive Camping Experience
For those who crave a truly back-to-basics camping experience, Beaver Lake offers primitive camping opportunities. While there are no facilities provided, the peaceful surroundings and stunning natural beauty make it the perfect place to unwind and connect with nature.
Unfortunately, there was quite a bit of trash. I’ve noticed that areas around the Poplar Bluff Ranger District frequently have full trash bags left in fire pits and random scattered trash. I’ve taught my son that we need to leave nature better than we find it, so we did take some trash home with us, but were unable to take it all.
Access and Regulations
A gravel ramp provides easy access for boats, making it convenient for anglers to explore the lake’s depths. Please note that only electric motors are permitted on Beaver Lake, ensuring a quiet and peaceful environment for all visitors.
It’s important to remember that the recreation area is surrounded by private ownership. Please respect property boundaries and refrain from trespassing.
Current Conditions and Restrictions
According to the US Forest Service, a recent breach in the dam has dropped caused the lake level to drop significantly. I recommend checking for updates on the lake’s condition before planning your visit.
Other important regulations include:
- Dogs must be on a 6-foot leash in the day use area.
- Please pack out all your trash. There are no trash containers on-site.
- Fireworks are prohibited.
- Missouri Fishing regulations apply.
